From debate to the stage

A high school learner has many challenges and we have an understanding of everyone's circumstances. There are learners who have the ability to move forward and others who only maintain. Learners should stay focused on their academics but the truth is, if he/she always work they miss out on other aspects of childhood. Cultural activities stimulate learners by improving their creative thinking, improving social and organizational skills and develops their talents.

Whether it's dancing, singing, reciting, acting, music or painting, there's something for everyone out there to enjoy. So, if we have gripped your imagination, then Jeugland is the best school to develop your talents and make you shine.

Mass Participation

If you can sing and dance and are acrobatic in nature, this activity is something that you must do.

Jeugland’s Revue- group is an exciting, highly accoladed performing arts group. The group also keeps Jeugland’s name high by winning various revue competitions over an extensive period of time. The group annually enters a medley of 12-15 minutes for several revue and eisteddfod competitions and wins every time!

The auditions are at the beginning of the year and approximately 80 members are selected. The music is recorded professionally by Protrax (Rian Swanepoel, a former Jeugie). The group's members sing and various voices, background voices and interesting music arrangements are included. The choreography is professionally produced by Mrs. Julie Ruthven. Each year she aims to produce and deliver the choreography from a different perspective to keep the audience in awe. We're very privileged to be able to utilize her expertise. The group also includes very difficult lifts which is not easily done by other groups. The costumes are interesting and colourful and fit the theme. Our story's aim is to take each and every person in the audience on a journey, filled with song and dance that will take their breath away. The staff ensures that the group is absolutely equipped to make a success of this activity.

Choir

Our Pride

Jeugland is one of the few schools that participate with their choirs both nationally and internationally. The choirs are well known and respected. With boys, girls and a mixed choir there are over 450 members who make their voices heard worldwide. Jeugland gives the world the opportunity to experience our choirs at international competitions. With hard work, under guidance of Mr Pottas, a passion for singing and a lot of commitment, Jeugland High School is known as one of the top choral schools in the country.

ACTING

On the stage

The plays of Jeugland offer learners the opportunity to live themselves out in the drama and develop valuable life skills such as confidence and communication. With numerous former Jeugies such as Leandi du Randt, Marco spaumer, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Karen Wessels (to name just a few), everyone was given their first step of fame on the Jeugland stage. We give learners the wings they need to prevail with in this life.

Debate

the future is yours

Debate is a cultural activity that creates opinion- formers and makes a difference in South Africa's development. We participate in the ATKV debating competition offered in Afrikaans annually. This competition usually attracts a lot of interest to our learners due to the development value for each participant. The Jeugies who participate in debate generally distinguish themselves as leaders at the school, because they are taught to argue and debate a matter in a mature way.

Public Speaking

Our leaders of tomorrow

JEUGLAND PUBLIC SPEAKING

A learner who is publicly able to voice his/her opinion, to defend it and who is able to carry the consequences thereof, has an attribute of invaluable value. Jeugland High school has a proud tradition of outstanding speakers and places a high premium on the development of these important skills. Whether it is alone or in a team, a Jeugie does not hesitate to say their say.

JEUGLAND TEAM PUBLIC SPEAKING

Team public speaking is for everyone, especially for those who love to chat! It offers a podium for the team who does not hesitate to defend their stance with courage and at the same time have the audience at the edge of their seats. It builds confidence and critical thinking. With our team public speaking, we are not afraid to grab the bull by the horns!
